Culturally, we are not greedy.
We just missed the second part of a Two-part Training in Connection.
Part 1: Teaches us to connect to others through need.
As a baby, our first connections stem from helplessness. We need food: There goes mommy. We need protection: Where is dad? We need a ride: Whose got a license?
Part 1 teaches us to connect to others through our need. Without another outlet to connect, we become hyper-focused on our own lack, and for good reason. A lack mindset is necessary for survival. The more aware we are of our helplessness, the more aware we will be if we meet someone who can help. Inside our tunnel vision, we can’t see that we are designed for another form of connection.
Part 2 teaches us to connect to others through our gifts. Instead of looking for how others can give to our lack, we can seek out their lack and give. The new way to connect is to become hyper-aware of our gifts, so that when we see lack in another, we can serve them. Helplessness in someone else should never be an opportunity to climb above them, but an opportunity to boost them up.
This is tricky because our whole life we use our gifts to climb the totem pole of school, of work, and of the scene.
We don’t have gifts so that we can open them ourselves, and step above other people. We have gifts so that we always have something to give. Connection comes from actually giving them.
I don’t think we are greedy. I think we are afraid of others rejecting what we have to give.
Guess what? If we don’t give anything, there will be nothing to open.
